Meeting Wayne Hemingway

P1030325

This week my classmates and I had the wonderful privilege of attending the “Fashion Matters” meeting at the Craft Village in Derry/Londonderry in which Wayne Hemingway, brains behind the famous “Red or Dead” fashion brand was guest speaker.
It was such an inspiration to listen to Mr. Hemingway talk about his amazing rise to fashion fame. Starting out with his partner on a market stall in Camden, London in their teens, they began selling their own clothes, they then branched out into designing their own items and progressed to a stall at Kensington High St. One day, out of the blue, the buyer from Macy’s in New York strolled through the market, loved their designs and placed a huge order… and so, that was the beginning of an incredible future in the world of fashion.
Mr. Hemingway spoke about the amazing opportunities for people working in the fashion industry in Ireland & the UK and how important it is to follow your dreams and do something you love.
I have always been brought up to believe this, but to hear it from someone who did it and did it successfully was such an eye-opener!
I left feeling motivated and completely inspired!
Aside from the motivational discussions, the meeting was such a great opportunity to catch up with some of my friends who are making waves in the fashion industry such as the fab “Fashionman” – Joe Carlin, designer extraordinaire – Miss Lynsey McGarrigle from Mohawk Fashion designs and the crew from Edel McBride knitwear, including the lady herself!
“Fashion Matters” gave me such hope for the future of fashion in our local area and made me really excited for what the future holds!

Looks great Nicola! I would've loved to go to that talk. The fashion scene in Derry/Londonderry is really taking off, which is so exciting for a fashion student/blogger like myself.

P.s I've been having a little trouble with that GFC link (as you've noticed) trying to fix it, but you can follow using the other GFC button a little on down my page. Better luck this time x x x
